Week of Welcome at Ocean View High School
Every year towards the end of summer, our beloved high school, Ocean View, hosts an orientation week for incoming freshmen known as the Week of Welcome (W.O.W. Week). The array of activities, from attending the first rally to picking up textbooks to even enjoying a dance, marks the approach of a brand new school year for the 9th graders. With the mindset of growing and developing our robotics team, we wanted introduce the freshmen to our team as well! Leading up to the 3-day event, we made sure that our robot was in top condition, checking our code, wires, and batteries as well as setting up our display booth complete with buttons, business cards, and sign up sheets. We even displayed Del Toro, our previous robot, alongside last year’s Esa Playa. Everything was ready for the freshmen as they were led by our booth during their tours of the school. Seeing their faces light up when they saw Esa Playa shoot the boulders towards reminded us of a nostalgic time when we were once freshmen, when we were once blown away by the millions of possibilities we could contribute to this wonderful team. Talking to the numerous freshmen about what robotics is and sharing the love we feel for it attracted them even more. From admiring our 4619 buttons to applauding our respected robots, our Hawkbots robotics team is thrilled to welcome freshmen to the robotics team which they will hopefully take part in. We hope to have sparked an inspiration in the minds of our incoming young members and we are very happy as always for opportunities like these to develop our team!
